Neil Bagchi Named to Board of American Red Cross – Central North Carolina

redcross We are excited to announce that Neil Bagchi has been named to the Board of the American Red Cross – Central North Carolina. Each year, the Triangle Region Red Cross responds to nearly 800 local disasters, providing assistance to more than 1,000 families (shelter, basic needs of food and clothing, guidance and referrals) at a cost of more than $772,000 and preventing more than 21,695 nights of homelessness.

“The work of the Red Cross is vital to the social fabric of our community,” said Neil. “I’m honored to serve on the Board, and I look forward to helping our community through the efforts of this amazing organization.”

About the American Red Cross – Central North Carolina Chapter

The Central North Carolina Chapter is part of the Triangle Region of the American Red Cross. The Triangle Region is comprised of five chapters and serves a population of more than 2.75 million people across a 20-county area providing relief to victims of disaster and helping people prepare for, prevent, and respond to emergencies. Neil Bagchi Moderates an Intellectual Property Panel: “Intellectual Property and Legal Issues in IT”

Neil Bagchi’s reputation for providing excellent legal guidance to its flourishing entrepreneurial community led to an invitation by the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) to serve as a moderator for a panel discussion about intellectual property issues in information technology. The session featured a technical discussion of case studies that illustrate the complexities and realities of protecting intellectual property from the perspectives of IT professionals and businesses.

Neil Bagchi Serves as Panelist for GLOBE – UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School

unc-globeNeil Bagchi served as a panelist for a GLOBE (Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education) class on legal and business issues to consider when launching a new venture. The session involved a Q&A on some of the basic fundamentals of law and finance that a founder needs to know when launching a business.


The GLOBE program is a unique undergraduate business program led by the UNC, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Copenhagen Business School. Neil Bagchi Named to Cherokee-McDonough Challenge Advisory Committee

The Challenge Advisory Committee helps with the selection and mentoring of early stage environmentally-focused business ventures and is composed of an experienced and talented group of entrepreneurs, advisors and investors from the Research Triangle region.

The Cherokee-McDonough Challenge is designed to identify, fund and develop high impact environmental business ventures. Up to five ventures will be offered $20,000 in seed funding from Cherokee and will then be invited to participate in an intensive three month accelerator. Neil Bagchi Named to Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite 2013 for Business Law

Business North CarolinaNeil Bagchi, founding partner of Bagchi Law, was recently recognized as a “Legal Elite” in Business Law for 2013 by Business North Carolina. This is Neil’s 3rd appearance on this prestigious list. According to Business North Carolina, less than 3.5% of the state’s lawyers, 735 in total, made this year’s list.

“I’m proud to appear on Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite list for this year,” said Neil. “There are a lot of talented business lawyers in our state and it’s very humbling to be recognized as a legal elite in the Business Law category.

Neil Bagchi Joins University of North Carolina Law Alumni Pro Bono Board

unc-school-of-lawNeil Bagchi recently accepted an invitation to serve on the University of North Carolina’s School of Law Alumni Pro Bono Board. In addition to Neil, fourteen other alumni comprise the board which is focused on increasing alumni engagement in the Pro Bono Program at UNC Law.

“Having been a student and participant in UNC’s Pro Bono Program, I fully understand the valuable lessons it teaches aspiring lawyers, not only in their practice of law, but in becoming better individuals,” said Neil Bagchi. “It’s a great honor to serve on this board with my fellow Tarheels.”

Neil Bagchi Serves on UNC School of Law Alternative Jobs Panel

unc-school-of-lawIn October 2012, Neil Bagchi served on a UNC School of Law panel titled “Unique Careers for Lawyers” which focused on highlighting the opportunities law students have outside of the legal industry. Given Neil’s entrepreneurial background, he was an ideal panelist and was able to provide first-hand knowledge of how his legal training helped him in the entrepreneurial world.

Neil Bagchi Serves as Judge for Nourish International’s Inaugural Venture Competition

nourish-internationalNeil Bagchi was recently a judge for Nourish International’s inaugural StartUp Cup Business Model competition. Supported by Nourish’s new Venture Fund, the competition is designed to support Nourish’s university chapters to grow current social business ventures, start new ventures and stimulate entrepreneurial activity across the Nourish university chapter network.

As a judge for the competition, Neil assisted his fellow judges in vetting and supporting promising ventures ideas. Neil serves as Board Secretary, Executive Committee Member and long-time volunteer on Nourish International’s Board of Directors.

Neil Bagchi Participates in NC IDEA Fall 2012 Grant Program

nc-ideaNeil Bagchi participated in NC IDEA’s Fall 2012 Grant Program. Neil served as external application reviewers. His task was to review grant applications from entrepreneur applicants and to provide them with valuable feedback with respect to their new business ventures.


NC IDEA targets high-tech companies that need help crossing the chasm between initial product development and venture capital funding. It has awarded over $2.5M in grants to help 67 NC startup companies since the program’s inception. For the Fall 2012 program, five grant recipients were chosen after a 4-month application and selection process, which drew 123 applications from 19 counties across the state.

Bagchi Law Hosts Fall Fest Event Benefiting Nourish International Chapel Hill, North Carolina (November 21, 2012)

Bagchi Law, in conjunction with Align Global Consulting, hosted a Fall Fest event benefiting Nourish International. Families from across the Research Triangle area attended the event, which featured family-styled attractions and beer tasting at the LoneRider Brewing Company where the event was held. The funds generated by the event were given to the Nourish Venture Fund, which helps support young social entrepreneurs across the United States seeking to impact extreme poverty by starting social ventures.

“The event was a great opportunity for local entrepreneurial leaders to get together and enjoy a Sunday afternoon with their families in support of a great charity.” said Neil Bagchi, founder of Bagchi Law.

“Nourish International is thankful for the generosity of Bagchi Law and Align Global Consulting to host this great event,” said Kelly Phoenix, Executive Director of Nourish International. “Everyday Nourish works with young social innovators using business as a tool for good to tackle extreme poverty in the developing world. With over 28 college campuses in our movement and 45 partner communities, the time is now to leverage more impact. The support of community members like Neil and Sean reminds us not only that are we not alone, but together we can create a future full of opportunity for those living in extreme poverty.”
