Unlocking the Power of Pay: A Conversation with Kapil Gupta, Founder of Compiify
Born from the frustrations of navigating outdated spreadsheet systems, Compiify exists to empower organizations with streamlined, data-driven decision-making for fair and transparent compensation practices. We spoke with Compiify founder, Kapil Gupta, to learn about the company and product that is shifting the corporate approach to compensation processes.
Introduction to Compiify
Tell us about your background & what led you to create Compiify.
I was VP of Partnerships at my former tech company, and I was managing our compensation on spreadsheets, which was a nightmare. It didn’t allow me an easy way to have transparency about how I was making decisions for my team – ultimately this led to a lot of turnover on my team. When I came to realize the entire company was managing compensation this way, and then realized it was actually a universal problem, I decided something really needed to be done about it. I decided to tackle it head-on. I left the company in January of last year and got to work building Compiify, learning the pain points for companies and employees alike and finding ways to address them.
Can you describe the core mission of Compiify?
The purpose of Compiify is to unlock the power of pay. We seek to help companies motivate employees to create a highly-engaged workforce, and to transform compensation management processes to make them more streamlined. We want to provide tools for companies to make consistent and data-driven pay decisions for their employees. By doing this, we are transforming the compensation management landscape into one that is more transparent, equitable, and efficient. None of the other tools out there today are providing tools that empower managers and provide coaching to help them make more informed pay decisions. We provide microlearning experiences and data analysis tools to guide them. None of the other tools are as easily implemented and highly-configurable as Compiify. We are truly putting the power in the hands of the HR teams.
Features and Benefits
What are the key features of Compiify, and how do they directly benefit organizations in managing compensation?
We are building a product that automates all the pieces of an end-to-end compensation process. Our clients are able to configure and manage automated payment cycles in a more streamlined manner, They are able to get people insights to inform their budgeting, and they are able to inform their employees about the total value of their compensation package through a Total Rewards Portal.
Integration and Security
How does Compiify ensure seamless integration with existing HR systems and maintain high standards of data protection and security?
Seamless integration is a core part of our strategy. We are building integrations with all the top HR systems and vendors, and our goal is that our customers will be able to completely automate their data sync and compensation cycles.
The AI Advantage
How does AI enhance the capabilities of Compiify, and what are some real-world advantages organizations have experienced?
AI is a big part of our story. There are many ways in which we already use and are planning to use AI to add value for our customers. We use AI to create data-informed insights for questions that were previously unanswerable. We use AI to use that same data to make predictions about the health of the company and the behaviors of those within it, for example, the outlier managers who may be giving biased pay raises. We’re looking forward to exploring the ways we are able to leverage AI to improve our customer’s compensation processes.
User Experience
Can you share a success story or case study where Compiify significantly improved an organization’s compensation management process?
We’re in the middle of implementing Compiify for a customer and already hearing good feedback. They were originally doing all of their compensation planning manually on spreadsheets, and are now completely automated because of Compiify. They were able to increase the efficiency of their HR team by up to 70% and now have complete transparency when it comes to data and insights.
Conclusion and Future Vision
How has Bagchi Law helped Compiify? What has Bagchi Law’s support meant to you and your company?
I’ve known Neil for almost 5 years, and he was the first person that came to mind when I decided to raise funds and move towards starting Compiify. This was a very complex project, and Neil and his team worked tirelessly to answer our questions on time, to meet with me frequently, and to close out our fundraising in only about a month. They went above and beyond. Neil is somebody who always keeps the interest of his clients in mind. He does not hesitate to tell you what’s right for you – he’s very respectful while ensuring that he is direct about what is truly in the best interest of his clients.
Where do you see the future of AI in compensation management, and how does Compiify plan to evolve in this landscape?
I think we are in the very early stages of worldwide compensation transformation. Ten of the US states have implemented pay transparency regulations, and we can expect that half of the US will be covered by new pay transparency laws by 2025. Compensation is something that has always existed behind closed doors, with companies making all those decisions in the dark. That’s changing. HR has transformed from an administrative function to more of a strategic function for companies, and as such, HR teams have more power. We are excited to give them the most efficient, holistic option for approaching compensation transparency as the paradigm continues to shift.
